Many thanks to Karen Harrington at Scobberlotch (and author of Janeology!). Karen recently posted a review and giveaway of the book Whale Song, here’s an excerpt:
Whale Song by Cheryl Kaye Tardif begins as a coming of age story told through the eyes of Sarah
Richardson, a kind spirited young girl whose father is a biology professor who also studies killer whales.
After the family uproots from Montana and moves to Vancouver Island, Sarah learns a great deal more about the voices of whales from her father; and also from the myths and beliefs of the Native Americans who embrace her like family. I won’t give away the two-hanky plot (which asks ethical questions about euthanasia and love) but I will say that these connections and beliefs help Sarah as she is forced to make that universal shift from idealistic adolescent to knowing young woman.
A “two-hanky plot”? That got my attention; there’s nothing like a good end-of-summer cry inspired by a great book! Click over here to read our winning entry to the giveaway, and to browse Karen’s blog.
An added bonus for me, Cheryl Kaye Tardif is a LibraryThing Author; so, after I’ve read and reviewed her book I’ll be one more along in my LT Author Challenge! Thanks, Karen! My older kids and I are looking forward to reading Whale Song!

Congratuations!
I hear very good things about Ms. Tardif.
Happy reading!
Congrats on the win! I have this one on my TBR shelf.. actually I’ve had it since June and really need to get to it! So many books…
Gosh…Karen just emailed me the link to here. Wow, I had no idea people were talking about me. lol (And thank God, only nice things.)
I really hope you all enjoy reading Whale Song. It is my “heart book” and when you read the dedication page inside it you’ll understand why. If it’s any consolation, I cried while writing the last chapter and the epilogue.
And by all means, please add me as a friend on LibraryThing, Goodreads, Shelfari, MySpace and Facebook…
I hope you get a chance to read my two dark suspense novels too–The River and Divine Intervention. I’m just finishing Divine Justice…if I ever get out of my house to write.
Congrats on winning! I love giving away prizes.

Susan, lisamm – my 12-yr-old picked the book up off my desk saying “I’d like to read this” … then she did, and told me “mum, you’ll definitely cry with this book”. I’m going to hold off until mid-September; I have high-energy plans for the first few weeks the kids are back in school!
Cheryl – I haven’t even peeked between the covers yet, as I want to wait a few weeks to read *Whale Song* (and I’m terrible at resisting temptation if a few sentences pull me in!). “Dark suspense”?! You’ll have me sleeping with the light on with your other books!
