Tuesday Thingers: These are a few of my favorite things …

Today’s question from the Boston Bibliophile:    Favorite Authors. Who do you have named in your LT account as favorite authors? Why did you choose them? How many people share your choices? Can you share a picture of one of them?

Well, I guess I have to update my LT profile, as the spot for “favorite authors” is blank!  These are my LibraryThing mysteries:

  • picture
  • about me
  • favorite authors
  • about my library
  • real name
  • location

I didn’t realize I was hiding so much of me in the shadows … I’ll work on this!

In the meantime, back to the question at hand – who are some of my favorite authors?  This is very fluid for me – if I read a book I *really* like and the author has published others, I tend to add the others to my TBR list.  Favorites that come to mind, that always satisfy, include Margaret Atwood and Carol Shields.

Other times I *really* like a book and then move on to others by the same author, only to find that the subsequent books don’t meet the benchmark.  I loved Ann Patchett’s Bel Canto, but was on the fence about The Magician’s Assistant.  I’m finishing up Run now, and I’ll report back as to where it falls on the spectrum of Ann Patchett books I’ve read.

Here’s a photo of one of the authors I’ve mentioned, check the comments to see who it is:

  • Carol Shields (1935 – 2003)
American-born Canadian author of *The Stone Diaries*, *Larry’s Party* and *Unless*

  • I’ve heard lots about The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret so she is definitely an author I want to check out.

  • I’m working on updating my favorite authors as we speak…I feel like I’ve been slacking!

  • I know what you mean about Ann Patchett. I loved Bel Canto but thought Patron Saint of Liars was just ok. Run didn’t look that interesting to me either.

I have the Stone Diaries and plan to read it soon!

  • I had no idea we could have favorite authors or how to do it. I’ve got a few in there now. Margaret Atwood is on my list. :)

  • Loved Bel Canto, but Run left me cold (no pun intended). Congrats on your move and hope you enjoy your new home!

  • Kathy – it’s been many years since I read every Atwood book I could get my hands on, it may be time to re-visit them.

S.Krishna – you see many blanks on my Profile, too. It was LisaLynne at *Minds Alive on the Shelves* who said that naming favorites seemed like such a *commitment* :)

Lenore – I haven’t yet finished *Run* and the clock is ticking on the book group… I hope you enjoy *The Stone Diaries*

Amber – I’ll check out your list of favorites… I still don’t have any listed on LT!

karen – I’ll have my review of *Run* up on Thursday; I’m not ready to pass judgement (still reading …)

  • [...] have a review ready.  I’ve read a lot of blogs with catchy things for the day, like Tuesday Thingers over at She Is Too Fond of Books, or the Weekly Geek over at The Hidden Side of a Leaf.  I [...]
