I was scrolling thru the blogs on my Reader and came across a post in the New York Times Papercutswith a verbal review of Michael Greenberg’s Hurry Down Sunshine. This was an interesting format – the host, Sam Tanenhaus, is editor of the Book Review; he was interviewing Rachel Donatio, former writer and editor of the Book Review, now Rome Bureau Chief for the NYT. It was really more of a conversation, Donatio told a bit about the book, why it appealed to her, and more about author Michael Greenberg.
My review of Hurry Down Sunshine is echoed by Donatio’s words: “In talking about it you do think this sounds like a bad TV movie, but when you read the book it’s extremely raw and powerful.”
Hurry Down Sunshine went on sale September 9. Click here to order Hurry Down Sunshine from amazon. Click here to order from your choice of IndieBound independent bookstores.
Until I came across this verbal review, I had only imported podcasts of author interviews and readings; now I have another reason to plug in my ear buds while running (I need short bursts of data, recorded books mesmerize me and I get distracted from the terrain!). How about you? Do you regularly listen to any podcasts … which ones? Do you archive them to refer back to, or simply delete after listening?

I listen to “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”, the weekly NPR news quiz, and “Savage Lovecast”, the podcast version of Dan Savage’s sex advice column. They’re both once a week, but I tend to let several weeks’ worth build up, and then listen to them all in one burst.
Dawn, I didn’t know you were a runner!
What I listen to depends on the run: long run (1 hour +) is an audio book. Short run is music.
I enjoy Papercuts, when I get around to reading it.
Fyrefly – “Wait, wait ..” is a great show. Now I’m going to check out Dan Savage’s program.
Shana – you can download the Papercuts podcasts (interviews or “book talk”) for short runs.
