The second author who presented at the New Literary Voices panel was Amy MacKinnon. We’ll hear from her toward the bottom of the post …
This is the publisher’s synopsis of the novel: Clara Marsh is an undertaker who doesn’t believe in God. She spends her solitary life among the dead, preparing their last baths and bidding them farewell with a bouquet from her own garden. Her carefully structured life shifts when she discovers a neglected little girl, Trecie, playing in the funeral parlor, desperate for a friend.
It changes even more when Detective Mike Sullivan starts questioning her again about a body she prepared three years ago, an unidentified girl found murdered in a nearby strip of woods. Unclaimed by family, the community christened her Precious Doe. When Clara and Mike learn Trecie may be involved with the same people who killed Precious Doe, Clara must choose between the stead-fast existence of loneliness and the perils of binding one’s life to another.

“Precious Doe”, and to hear Amy read from her debut novel. She says that Tethered is ultimately about a search for faith, and that she continues to write on this theme.
Amy will be reading at the Barnes & Noble in Peabody, Mass., on Tuesday, November 19. Visit her website to learn more about the author, check for upcoming events, and to join her mailing list.
I haven’t yet read Tethered (it’s on my wish list!), but I’ve seen lots of reviews around the blogosphere. If you’ve posted a review, please leave a note in the comments and I’ll link back to it.
Here are a few:
- softdrink at Fizzy Thoughts
- Ti at Book Chatter and other stuff

I thought it was a wonderful book!

And my review links to Ti’s review…she liked it, too.
softdrink – thanks! I’ve updated with your post and Ti’s
I just won Tethered from softdrink and can’t wait to read it.
Kathy -If you review *Tethered*, I’ll add your review, too. I’m hoping Santa brings the novel for me
I lived in Kansas City at the time that was going on. I had no idea about the connection to Tethered.
Shana – interesting to learn that a portion of the proceeds is donated to Natl Ctr for Missing and Exploited Children. Finally that case has had some resolution, with the recent sentencing.
