Tuesday Thingers: stuff it!

Today’s question from the Boston Bibliophile: LT Things- t-shirts, bags, cue cats- are you into the “stuff”? Do you use a cuecat to enter your books, or do you enter them manually? What do you think of the stuff?

Like Marie, I’m not into the “stuff;”  to me, it’s just more clutter.  In fact, there’s an acronym I read a few years ago over at the flylady website that I think of every time I hear the word “stuff”:

  • Something
  • That
  • Undermines
  • Family
  • Fun

I don’t wear logo t-shirts, except around the house, and I have plenty of freebies from races and charity events.  We have a lot of tote bags, too; although I wouldn’t be opposed to a nice messenger bag with a discreet logo.

I don’t own one, but I consider the cue cat more of a tool than a promotional item.  I entered (and continue to enter, as I worked my way thru the bookcases) my books manually.  If I were cataloging an institutional library, or helping a reluctant friend to set up an LT library, I might consider buying one to make cataloging quicker.

What do you think about the items in the LibraryThing store?  Do you buy/use promotional branded items in general?

  • I work in advertising, so I have a ton of branded items some of which is cool, most not. I do love my book related swag though (and to find out what that is, you have to read my post :)

  • I hate clutter and have too much of it already, so I won’t be buying any of that stuff.

  • I’ve never really been fond of having logos plastered all over the products I buy, but I’ve had my share of promotional T-shirts, mugs, etc. I probably wouldn’t be likely to buy anything in the LT store – except the tote bag. I’ve got a real weakness for tote bags.

  • I hate it when my 14 year-old overuses the word stuff. I’ll have to tell her about that acronym, Dawn. That said, I do tend to use the word once in a while. Maybe more often!

  • I agree about clutter, it’s not my thing. I like the acronym though!

  • Lenore – your laminted buttons sound cool!

Kathy – I’m still working on switching over the kids’ summer clothes to winter. It’s great to get a bag of too-small clothing out of the house!

Joy – I’ve got the same weakness for tote bags. I was using re-usable bags at the grocery store before it was trendy.

Shana – stuff, whatchamacallit, thingy, thingamabobbers … my kids use all those words (and non-words). Reminds me of the song from The Little Mermaid.

Melissa – paper clutter is the worst! the school notices (that I get 4 copies of!) … right into the recycle bin!)

  • love the acronym. i need to get back into the flylady regime.

  • I’m kinda weird about logos. I don’t mind them on non-clothing items, like cups and bottles, but I absolutely hate them on everything else. I refuse to buy a purse if the logo is too big, and unless a shirt’s logo is cleverly designed or hidden in a bigger pattern, I refuse to buy it.

On the other hand, I love LT so much I was contemplating buying a sticker and putting it on my laptop. So I suppose it mostly depends on how much I like the company behind the logo. :D

  • I have the cue-cat and enjoy using it, but that’s about all I would consider buying from the LT shop. I’m not into logos much at all, I do like certain brands of clothing but prefer the logos to be tiny or only on the tags. Although I will wear logos from the charities I support.
