The Boston Bibliophile asks: Popular this month on LT: Do you look at this list? Do you get ideas on what to read from it?
Have you read any of the books on the list right now? Feel free to link to any reviews you’ve done as well.
Where do you find the list of Popular this Month? Click the Home tab at LibraryThing, then scroll through the list on the right side (Announcements, From the Blogs, Featured Authors, etc.). You’ll see it just under Recently Added by Other Members.
Marie has given us the list for this month:
- 1. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
- 2. Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron (I won in a giveaway, haven’t read it yet)
- 3. Nation by Terry Pratchett
- 4. Brisingr by Christopher Paolini
- 5. Anathem by Neal Stephenson
- 6. American Wife: A Novel by Curtis Sittenfeld (rec’d as an ARC. Embarrassed to admit I haven’t read it yet!)
- 7. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer (on my wish list!)
- 8. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: A Novel by David Wroblewski (I won in a giveaway … lucky me! but I haven’t read it yet)
- 9. Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3) by Stephenie Meyer (on my daughter’s bookcase)
- 10. Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland (no desire to read this; anyone want to try to change my mind?!)
I’m familiar with most, if not all of these books. I didn’t find them in the Popular this Month section on LT, though, I’ve just seen them around in review blogs.
So, why did I title this post “Popularity Contest (part 2)”? Back in June, Marie asked us about the most popular book in our LT libraries. Here’s my answer to that question. And, five months later, my answer remains the same, I still haven’t read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time!

Wow! You haven’t read any of them. I hope you get Guernsey, because I think you will enjoy it.
I’m familiar with all but one of those. I’ve even read Eclipse and own Dewey.
If it makes you feel any better, I’ve had The Curious Incident for the same amount of time, and I still haven’t read it, either.
Kathy – my husband knows I would be very happy to find it under the Christmas tree!
ladytink – I haven’t read any of Stephenie Meyers’ books … it’s just a matter of time, I suppose.
Ruth – I’m glad I’m not the only one who has books gathering dust!
Dawn, I feel the EXACT same way about Any Given Doomsday. In fact, I was really surprised to see it on this list. I’ve definitely read more negative than positive reviews of it.
(So, obviously, I’m not going to be the one to change your mind about it!)
