Tuesday Thingers: Blog widgets

Today’s question from the Boston Bibliophile - Blog Widgets.  Do you use them? Do you have them on your blog?   Do you know what I’m talking about? :-) A blog widget is that list of books “From my LibraryThing” and such, that you’ll sometimes see on someone’s sidebar.  If you use it, do all of your books show up or do you have it set to only show certain books?  Do you have a search widget, which would allow your blog readers to search your library?  Have you ever made a photomosaic of your book covers?  You can find widgets and photomosaic information on the “Tools” tab in LibraryThing.

I use the widget that shows “Recent Books from My Library.”  It lists the ten books I added most recently to my LT library.  Clicking on the title/author will bring a reader to that particular book in the LT library system; clicking on the cover picture will bring a reader to that title at Amazon.com - shopping through this link benefits my fundraising efforts for First Book.

I haven’t tried the photomosaic widget, but it’s probably something I’ll play around with the next time I improve the look of my blog.  My next blog design project is an “about the author” photo and a more eye-catching header picture; so much to do, so little time …

  • The only LT widget I have is The Early Reviewer one.

  • off topic but I realized I have only a few more days to finish Guernica for the LT Author Challenge…eek!

  • I havne’t tried the photomosaic either, but am interested to see what it looks like.

  • Well, I think your header is very eye-catching as it is! Yes, I’d like to play around with the photomosaic widget feature, too. But I think that’s gonna have to wait until after the holidays, when I’ll have more time for all things widgety.

  • I think I’m going to have to change my LT widget to the Recent Books one so it will only show books with covers!

  • I haven’t done a photomosaic either, but I’m definitely going to play around with it soon.

  • Kathy – I forgot about that little ER bird, I have him too!

Lenore – I really liked *Guernica.* In fact, Dave Boling agreed to do an interview with me … the ball’s in my court to get the questions to him now. I’ll send a challenge update out by Sunday!

Melissa – I like the look of the photomosaic, but I like the text under the cover pic, too.

Joy – well, thanks for the compliment – you made my day! Like you, I don’t have much time for anything “widgety” these days :)

Cathy – I think it shows up to the 10 most recently-added books. Maybe you could tag your coverless books “no cover” and pull those *without* that tag (? not sure this is possible)

Ruth – I’d like to experiment with some of the other display features, too.
