Mailbox Monday: December 8, 2008

I join the gang with Mailbox Monday today, hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page.  Here’s a posting of the books that have come into my life in the past week …

Oh, yes, that’s really my mailbox.  It was a beautiful day Saturday and I went back in to get my camera when I saw all those manila envelopes (on a Saturday?!?  That’s usually junk mail day!).

No, it doesn’t wear a Santa cap all season, I just felt like being silly :)

The Help by Kathryn Stockett; from the publisher; to be released by Putnam on February 10, 2009.

The Art Instinct by Denis Dutton; to be published by Bloomsbury on December 23 of this year.

Blonde Roots by Bernardine Evaristo; from the publisher; to be released by Riverhead/Penguin on January 22, 2009.

The Book of Night Women by Marlon James; from the publisher.  Also from Riverhead/Penguin, coming February 19, 2009.

Lost and Found by Carolyn Parkhurst.  I won this from Hachette and Book Critiques (thanks, Smiling Sal!).  This is available in paperback NOW!

The Rose of Sebastopol by Katharine McMahon will be published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons/Penguin on March 5, 2009

Blog Blazers is available in paperback now; it was sent to me by the author, Stephane Grenier.  I love the subtitle: 40 Top Bloggers Share Their Secrets to Creating a High-Profile, High-Traffic, and High-Profit Blog!

I’m Sorry You Feel That Way: The Astounding True Story of a Daughter, Sister, Slut, Wife, Mother and Friend to Man & Dog, a memoir by Diana Joseph, will be published by Amy Einhorn/Putnam in March 2009.  I think this one deserves “title of the week.”

Karen Harper’s Mistress Shakespeare is historical fiction that will be published in February 2009 by G.P. Putnam’s Sons/Penguin.

Karen Bauermeister’s The School of Essential Ingredients is another novel from G.P. Putnam’s Sons/Penguin; this one is coming in January.

What’s new on your bookshelf?

  • Awesome haul Dawn! I really want to read a lot of those and can’t wait to hear your thoughts on them.

I love your mailbox! It’s nice and roomy. :)

  • Looks like you’ve got a bunch of good books on deck. Love the mailbox wearing the Santa hat. It’s fitting, I think… :D

  • Welcome to Mailbox Mondays. I love your picture and this meme. We’ve got some of the same books. I’m Sorry You Feel That Way really sounds interesting.

  • Don’t you just LOVE to see those little manila envelopes! I admit, every time I give a little squeal of delight :)

I just requested The Help (looks great, doesn’t it?), and received Blonde Roots last week…there are so many great books out there!

  • Great haul! And I’m so very, very jealous of countries that have mail delivery on Saturdays.

  • What a nice mailbox monday!!! I’d love to read this one:

I’m Sorry You Feel That Way: The Astounding True Story of a Daughter, Sister, Slut, Wife, Mother and Friend to Man & Dog

It does have an awesome title!

  • Love the photo Dawn.

What a great week – so many wonderful books!!! I cannot wait to see your review of the Joseph book!!!

  • Nicole

how do you keep track of all the books, requests, and reviews? do you have a master excel sheet?

  • Amy – the previous homeowners were responsible for that mailbox … I don’t know what kinds of big things they had delivered!

Kathy – it is fun to see the trends of what everyone is getting.

Wendy – “so many great books, so little free time!”

Serena – to see the week’s incoming book in one post is a bit daunting!

Memory – I look forward to the mail every day – those Monday holidays are tough, with no mail 2 days in a row (giving us a taste of your delivery schedule)

Lauren – and I think that all refers to ONE person!

Shana – It looks great (I love personal memoir), bu don’t sit by your computer waiting for me to post the review – it won’t be published until March, so it’s not in my ‘hot’ pile.

Nicole – yup! I have columns for title, author, source, publisher, date of contact/request, date received, date of publication, and date my review was posted. Here’s the true OCD part – the rows show up in red if the book is not yet published, and green once I’ve posted the review. I can sort the heck out of it, so I can pull books rec’d in a particular date range, or pending reviews for a particular publisher. Am I organized or compulsive?

  • Love your mailbox, Dawn! I bought one that size to replace the dinky one we had. I used to sell things on eBay, and now with Paperback Swap, I need that extra room. You received quite a haul of books last week. We’ll have to compare notes on Blonde Roots.

  • Wow…what a fruitful week you had! I have The Help and School of Essential Ingredients on my TBR list…can’t wait to read your thoughts on those!

  • Wow….I’m so jealous of your mailbox and even more with the contents in it! I love receiving books in the mail too. :D It can certainly brighten up my day.

  • Dar

I love your mailbox! Ours is boring. Great load of books you got there. I have a few of those too. Now to find the time to read them all right. lol.
