Anna at Diary of an Eccentric and Serena at Savvy Verse and Wit have teamed up to create a blog dedicated to war literature and will host yearly reading challenges based on a specific theme. The theme for 2009 is World War II. Here’s an overview, all the details are at the War Through the Generations blog:
The WWII Reading List page is an amazing resource! That really tipped the decision to join this challenge; although I’m committing to only the minimum five books.
I’ll list them here, with links to my reviews:
- Resistance by Anita Shreve
- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
- book two
- three
- etc.

This challenge sounds so good, but I just can’t fit in for 2009. We’re in lots of the same challenges for 2009! I’ll be looking forward to reading your reviews.
Now I have to see about that LT author challenge you mentioned . . .
Oh, I’m so glad you signed up! I can’t wait to see what books you choose. I’ve added you to the participants page on the challenge blog.
Dawn, I’m glad you’re doing this one with us. It will be so much fun!
Beth – I’ll list the LT Author Challenge before the 31st … kids are off school this week and we’re keeping BUSY, so blog/reading time is minimal
Anna – thanks for adding my name. Your book lists are fantastic resources for everyone!
Shana – I haven’t listed my books yet, I think I’ll do that as I read them. I looked at the suggested book list, and more than a dozen popped right out at me.
[...] I’ve seen ads for the film The Reader based on the book of the same name by Bernhard Schlink; I thought, “I’ll have to read the book before I see the movie,” which generally means that I’ll end up renting the DVD months down the road. Then I read this review over at My Friend Amy’s and knew I had to add the book to my wish list right away … then to my TBR stack … then to my nightstand! Maybe I’ll see the film on the big screen after all, instead of Netflix. Another bonus – it will fit nicely into the War Through the Generations Challenge. [...]
Hi,
I am wondering if you would know how I can find my list of books for the challenge. I believe that I have 3 books, maybe 4 on there. I read so much that I have lost track. I have started a good old paper list, [my back up]. I too, am VERY HAPPY that I found this website, and have alread passed it on to a few WW II readers.
Thank you for any assistance.
take care, stay warm

There are great lists of suggested reading, and book review posts. If you don’t have your own blog, but want to share thoughts on a book, you can send a note to Anna or Serena at the email address on the left side of the blog.
I’ll look forward to seeing what you’re reading; stop back anytime!
