The Week Ahead: January 5 – 11, 2009

Back from my holiday hiatus of posting these weekly updates, I’m starting the New Year with a plan:

Monday 1/5 – Mailbox Monday:  I’ll share the new books that have come into my home this past week.

Today is the first day of Kim’s Blog Improvement Project;  I’m so excited about this year-long project/challenge!  Kim of “Sophisticated Dorkiness” will post ideas and tasks the first and third Monday of each month.

I’ll also have an review and giveaway of a travel guide.  Where to?  The largest city in the US, the Big (insert name of fruit here), “I {heart} this place” …

Tuesday 1/6 – I’ll have an interview with John Addiego, author of The Islands of Divine Music.

Wendiwill once again host the weekly Tuesday Thinger meme, and we have MizB’s Teaser Tuesday to give you a peek at what I’m reading now.

Wednesday 1/7 – Spotlight on Bookstores returns, with a post by John Addiego.

Thursday 1/8-  My TriCon book group meets to discuss Elizabeth Strout’s Olive Kitteridge.  I’m looking forward to this for two reasons – 1. it’s a great group of warm and inviting women and the discussions take place around the dinner table; this week the hostess is serving chili, and the rest of us will fill in the menu with corn bread, salad, wine and dessert (cross your fingers that J gets home from work in time for me to get there at the beginning of the evening!).  2.  I attended an “author’s breakfast” as part of our Concord Festival of Authors in October; Elizabeth Strout was one of the featured authors and she read from this book.

Since it’s Thursday we’ll see what the BTT question is this week.

Friday 1/9 - Friday Finds will post.  I already have one book listed, this one that my niece reviewed.

Saturday 1/10 - I will be out all day at a Team Manager training for Destination Imagination.  Anyone else involved in this?  I’m heading a team with my 10-yr-old son and six of his classmates, who will build two machines that complete a series of tasks (release and catch, towing, stacking objects, etc.), narrated by a story the students create about the theme of cooperation.  I’m a facilitator, just there to keep them safe and to assist in team-building skills; not allowed to interfere, give ideas or feedback on their ideas.  There’s been a lot of tongue-biting already!  LM10 was involved in a similar program in Connecticut, called Odyssey of the Mind; it’s really a fantastic program.

Sunday 1/11 – I don’t know which days these will post (since, hmm, I haven’t yet written them all … and in one case haven’t yet read the book!), but, look for reviews of Fodor’s New York City 2009, Blog Blazers, Olive Kitteridge and People of the Book this week.

Are you back in the blogging swing of things after the holidays?  What’s happening in your world this week?
