Where did January go?!? This plan for The Week Ahead straddles two months – wow, time really does fly! Take a look below to see what She is Too Fond of Books (and I) have on the calendar:
Monday 1/26 – It’s time for Mailbox Monday … these days it’s more like “Where is My Mailbox? Monday” since everything is covered in snow. I look forward to hearing the sound of it melting and running down the roof!
Tuesday 1/27 – Spotlight on Bookstores will run one day early this week, due to a book tour commitment on Wednesday. My guest is Sarah Pekkanen, and if you don’t know her, I’ll look forward to making the introduction to this talented and entertaining writer.
Since it’s Tuesday, we may also visit Tuesday Thingers and Teaser Tuesdays.
Tonight I’m attending an informational meeting for the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk to benefit Susan G. Komen for the cure. My friend/neighbor Debbie and I have already formed a team and are training for this 60-mile event; rather than finding out what it’s all about, we’ll be filling in the details of “what have we gotten ourselves into?”
Wednesday 1/28 – I’ll be hosting Ingrid Cummings on her TLC Book Tour for her book The Vigorous Mind. I’ve noted that after I finished reading this self-improvement book my family should refer to me as “Renaissance Mom.”
Thursday 1/29 – Sarah Pekkanen is back! And she’s got a present! Check back to find out the details of this generous offer!
Tonight my TriCon book group meets to discuss Breakfast with Buddha by Roland Merullo. I’ll confess that I didn’t have time to read the book, but this is such a great group of women I’m going to the meeting anyway … I’ll listen in on the book discussion and enjoy the dinner
Bermudaonion recently reviewed Merullo’s American Savior, another book on my wish list!
Friday 1/30 - Today is the last day to enter my giveaway for 3 audiobooks of James Peterson’s Sundays at Tiffany’s. If you haven’t yet entered, click on the link over there to the right! There’s also a giveaway for H. L. Mencken’s Notes on Democracy … it’s like Christmas over here!
It’s a “professional day” (we used to call them “teacher work days”) at the Middle School, so my 12-year-old will be home from school. I’m hoping she’ll be willing to forgo sleeping late in order to enjoy breakfast with me at a local bakery after the other kids get off to school.
Saturday 1/31 – I’ll announce the winners of Sundays at Tiffany’s.
Sunday 2/1 - Look for the winner of Notes on Democracy.
So, what do you think about me attending the book group meeting without having read the book? Would you go? Do you think hearing the discussion will “spoil” the book for me, or prevent me from reading it?
What’s on your calendar this week?

Oh, I say you should go. It’s kind of like reading a book, then seeing the movie based on the book — even if you know what’s going to happen, you still enjoy it most of the time, right? Plus all the book clubs I know seem to have great food and conversation…
See you Tuesday!

I would go. I don’t think hearing the discussions would spoil it; however if you don’t like the comments about the book you may not want to read it. … I would go for the company, food, and wine — also it will be good to be away from the house and what I like to call “me time.”
I would go for the social aspects. I agree that it’s not too different from seeing the movie first and then reading the book.
Come on over and pick up an award:

Sarah – this is a great group, yes, I plan to go. and eventually I’ll read the book (or something else by the author). See you in the Spotlight!
Nicole – now, I didn’t mention wine, but, yes, there will be wine! and no whining! another good reason to get out of the house
Beth – thanks for your input .. and for the award!
I’ve always wanted to do the 3-day walk but then got hit with Lupus and it all sort of fell apart. However, I seem to be in remission so things are lookingup again. Way to go for signing-up. Take lots of pics if you can.
That Breakfast w/Buddha book looks very interesting. There are times when I cannot read the book for my group but I always go anyway. The discussion always makes its way to a theme that I can speak to.
I think you should go – to me, a book group is very much about the socializing, with people who share a love of reading. It sounds like fun!
I’ll add my two cents to the consensus – go. I bet you won’t be the only one who hasn’t read the whole book. Just enjoy your friends.
Ti – I will definitely post pictures of the 3-Day, and update on my training progress in the meantime. I want to follow their 24-week plan, so I can succeed (and not hurt myself!)
Belle – this is the “dinner and a book” group, so it’s more relaxing (once I get there) … a very nice group.
Margot – (continued from my answer to Belle) … and because it involves dinner, it starts earlier, which makes it harder to get to. I’m planning to go, and have resolved to book a sitter for future meeting dates, so I don’t have to wait by the door for J to get home from work!
