I’d love to be entered for this book. I’ll post the giveaway in my sidebar!
I like this book by what the post states. I bet this is a great read especially since it was written during the 60′s and 70′s (or at least about that timeframe).
Thanks for the intro and the opportunity!

I really would like to read this.
God bless our troops.
I haven’t read the Winston Churchill book. As a teacher, I know I’d find this book fascinating. Please count me in!
In a subtle but clear way, it shows just how prevalent racism was in the North. I remember reading something where Martin Luther King Jr. expressed his absolute dismay at condition in the North. In a way, he said, it was easier to fight racism in the South because at least all you had to do there was change laws. In the North, such things were insidious and cultural. There were few laws to change, but a lot of habit and minds.

Chapter One reminded me of a friend of my family who showed me the constellations when I was about the age Charlise was when her dad showed her. I’d love a chance to read the rest of the book!
sounds like a great read thanks for the giveaway
My daughter is a social worker, I think she’d find this fascinating. Thanks.
It sounds like an interesting racial, gender and cultural memoir given the bio(woman African American) and the times (60′s 70′s).
Thanks for the giveaway!

I’d love to read this book. I recently spent some time working with a student on the topic of racism through the ages. Tragically, racism still raises its ugly face although not as overt as in the 1960s. Reading the experiences of this young woman living in an environment so different from her own is appealing. Thanks so much for the opportunity to win this book. pamelashockley(at)netscape(dot)net
I really enjoyed reading this sample chapter. I also grew up in Ohio (although in Akron, rather than Cleveland) and I can remember taking the bus downtown. Yes, this did bring back memories — coke refrigerators, red vinyl purses. I’d love to read the rest of the book!
