TEASER TUESDAYS is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading and asks you to:
From where we stood, there was a perfect view down into the city. They’d taken aim at her from here, as she stood holding her infant son in a UN water line.
{gulp!} You can imagine what might happen next! This is from Geraldine Brooks’ People of the Book which is an incredible work from the author who won the Pulitzer Prize for her novel March. The passage is set a few years ago, in war-torn Sarajevo. The theme of oppressing those who are different runs throughout the book.
Oh, and did I mention that Geraldine Brooks will be reading at our local bookstore on Sunday?! J will have to do all the afternoon kid runs – birthday parties, project groups, and library outings … I will be busy!
Now, who said the quote in the title of my post? It’s not from the book …

I have wanted to read this book for the longest time. I’m insanely jealous that you get to go to the reading on Sunday! Have fun!
I think Rodney King said those words. Enjoy the reading.
That’s some teaser, been hearing alot about this book lately…
Not certain where the quote is from but wouldn’t it be nice if we all could!
Sounds like an excellent book. Lucky you to have a chance to get it signed and hear her own voice reading the words. My guess on the quote is all mothers at some point in raising more than one child? Or maybe school teachers?
I’m listening to the audio book version of this right now. I’m so jealous that you’ll get to hear the author – wish I could be there! I’m looking forward to comparing notes with you once we both have our reviews up.
I got her Year of Wonders!
Here is my post!
I’m seriously considering buying the book.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts when you are done.
Happy reading!
Great teaser! I have not read anything by Geraldine Brooks yet.
That’s a great teaser!!! Did you see mine?
Well that Teaser makes me not want to read the book for a while since it is not very uplifting. I really enjoyed “March” – how interesting to be able to hear from her locally. And I agree with Nise’ – that quote was certainly said by Rodney King after his police beating during the OJ verdict riots.
Yes, Rodney King.
This book is on my TBR list. I read her Year of Wonders. I liked it.
Great quote! I really enjoyed this book.
Oh my goodness…you will tell us all about the reading, won’t you??
What a wonderful teaser – it sounds very interesting!
Here’s my Teaser! ~ Wendi
This sounds fascinating! Thanks for sharing the teaser.
This is the one you were reading the other day—I’m thinking I should really pick this one up. I haven’t heard a bad thing about it. Great teaser.
I’ve had this one on my shelf for way too long without reading it.
