Well, virtual cups of coffee … read on, and I’ll explain …
I’m walking the Breast Cancer 3-Day in July. We’ll walk 60 miles over 3 days, raising funds and awareness about breast cancer detection, treatment, and the search for a cure.
Why am I walking? It’s estimated that in the U.S. in 2008 alone, 200,000 women and 2,000 men were diagnosed with breast cancer. The chance of a woman developing invasive breast cancer at some point in her life is 1 in 8. Think of the women in your life – friends, neighbors, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, co-workers, etc …. 1 in 8! I hate those statistics!
Net proceeds from the Breast Cancer 3-Day benefit two organizations, Susan G. Komen for the Cure (85%) and National Philanthropic Trust (15%). Susan G. Komen for the Cure has touched every major advance in the fight against breast cancer, from research to education to advocacy, for 26 years.
I’m committed to raising a minimum of $2300 for the Breast Cancer 3-Day. To date I have raised $600 (thank you!), and have decided to be bold and ask for contributions via She is Too Fond of Books. That’s where the 340 cups of coffee come in. I figure a fancy coffee drink is about $5, so I’m hoping that 340 people are willing to donate the equivalent of a cup of coffee toward my efforts.
If you’d like to donate, simply visit my Breast Cancer 3-Day fundraising page. Credit card contributions of $5 or more can be made online. Contact me if you prefer to donate by check, and I’ll give you the details.
I will be walking with a list of loved ones. Whether or not you are able to contribute financially, if you want to add a name “in honor of” someone fighting breast cancer, or “in memory of” someone who has lost their battle, just leave their name and your message in the comments below. If you prefer to email that information privately, you can reach me at dawn@sheIsTooFondOfBooks.com .
If you want to be my cheerleader or pied piper, I invite you to blog about the Breast Cancer 3-Day and link to this post or to my fundraising page!
In these challenging economic times, I realize and respect that donors necessarily make choices about the organizations that can support; thank you for considering my Breast Cancer 3-Day walk.

Hey Dawn –
I’ll buy you a cup of coffee if you come here to drink it with me
xo
M.
I think this is wonderful. I am thinking about doing the Avon 2-day here in Sept. I’ll buy you a cup of coffee! Going to site now…
I love it–I usually get a Starbuck skinny vanilla latte a couple of times a week, I’ll skip them both this week. I’ve sent the $10 to you, hope it helps reach your goal! Best of luck!
Coffee or tea? No thanks. Diet Coke is my caffeine of choice. Although if we’re going to meet at Starbucks I’d have a Hot Chocolate. This is a wonderful cause and I say good for you for giving of yourself for three days. Count me in. I’m going to your site right after I comment on your blog improvement post.
Dawn I donate in Canada all the time in memory of my Aunt Tally and one of my best friends Christine along with all others suffering or gone from us. I’ll make a special contribution with you in mind if that’s ok. Good luck—it’s a great and important cause.
You guys are awesome!
Michele – I’d make chai from scratch if we could sit down and drink it together
Ti – thank you! Let us know if you do the Avon walk!
Kelly – Starbucks chai latte (with “extra spice”, that’s 8 pumps instead of 5 in a vente!) is my downfall
thanks!!
Margot – thanks! I “do” Diet Coke in the afternoons when I need a pick-me-up.
Dar – I’ll put Aunt Tally and Christine on my *list* … thanks for your encouragement!
I was getting ready to send Komen a check soon anyways, so I just did it through your donation page instead! Hope you have a great walk!
I’ll give you a “cup of coffee”
I hate that the statistics are as daunting as they are. Thanks for your work and effort!
I’m not walking, but I am playing a game of basketball for Relay for Life. I work as the bookkeeper in an elementary school (grades 1-4). Anyway, 1st & 2nd grade faculty is competing against 3rd & 4th grade. All proceed go to Relay for Life. I just hope I’m among the living after the game!
