Mailbox Monday: May 18, 2009

Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Marcia at the Printed Page.  Here’s a look at the books that have come into my house this week:

I received Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea.  I’m really looking forward to reading this, especially since I hope to meet the author at Book Expo America later this month!

My 13-year-old daughter picked this up as soon as I opened the package; it’s 20 Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler.  She has promised a review as soon as she’s finished reading it.

I’ve got just one question, how can I be too young to be the mother of a teenager, yet too old to be the mother of a 4-year-old … we’re having one of those days!

OK, a second question, what’s new on your bookshelf this week?

  • Into the Beautiful North looks fantastic! It’s definitely on my reading list! I can’t wait to see what you think of it.

Ugh. Teenage daughters!! I have an 8 yo daughter and a 7 yo daugther. I am so NOT looking forward to the teenage years! My husband wanted girls so bad. I tried to tell him that teenage girls are a big pain in the butt….but he didn’t listen and now I”m afraid I am cursed with little versions of me!! We are in so much trouble!

I didn’t do a Mailbox Monday post this week, but I received a couple of books. One that looks really good is a copy of Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr. I can’t wait to read it!

  • I received 20 Boy Summer this last week too. It will be great fun to compare opinions – especially between your 13 year old and me, a sixty-something year old. I look forward to it.

  • I read and reviewed Into the Beautiful North. I also read 20 Boy summer. My review of 20 Boy Summer is coming out this week. I really liked Beautiful North!

    Sheri

  • I’m mom to ages 17, 15 and 6 … do I know about those kinds of days!

  • I hope I see your daughter’s review!

  • I’m slated to recieve the Urrea book through LibraryThing and I’m so looking forward to it. I meant to read The Hummingbird’s Daughter and never got to it and now his next book is out. That is so cool that your young daughter is willing to write a review. And you are going to Book Expo, I’m jealous of course. Hope you can take some pictures for us. Enjoy your books.

  • Stephanie – My daughter is very much like I was at her age … only more so. My mother will shake her head and say “payback!”. Really, they’re all great kids!!

Margot – let me know when you’re ready to review 20 Boy Summer. Maybe you could do a dual “thru the generations” review (?)

Sheri – great! I’m looking forward to both of them (when I get 20 Boy back from teen!)

Belle – yet you’re smiling in your pic … there’s hope for me :)

Mary – she’s written a few for me. The Shelley Adina books under Children’s/YA Book Review tab up top.

Sandra – I haven’t read THE HUMMINGBIRD’S DAUGHTER EITHER (yet!) Oh yes, there will be photos from BEA!

  • Into the Beautiful North looks really good. As for the teenaged daughter thing, I have a preteen and she’s challenge enough already. Doesn’t help that her older brother is smack in the hormonal thing right now too (immature boy and precocious girl–how lucky could we be to match up their rattiness?!). Thank heavens for the 7 year old who is still usually sweet!

  • I’m looking forward to Into the Beautiful North and meeting the author at BEA too! He’s so great on Twitter.

  • haha…I don’t have an answer to your question :)

I’ve heard good things about Twenty boy summer. Hope your daughter enjoys it.

  • Those both look like fun books. I’m looking forward to your daughter’s review. Perhaps I can recommend it to my 13 year old!

  • Dar

It’ll be great to see a review from your daugter Dawn. I’d like to read that book myself.

  • I really enjoyed Twenty Boy Summer. I’m working on my review. I hope your daughter likes it =)

  • I am really interested in reading your opinions on Into the Beautiful North. It sounds like a really good book.

  • I just finished reading 20 Boy Summer – I liked it :)

  • I’ve heard good things about both of these books. Happy reading! My mailbox is here.
