Are you going to be anywhere near Boston next weekend, July 24-26? Southern New Hampshire? Western suburbs? North or South shores … or even on the Cape for the summer? Come, share in the experience of the Boston Breast Cancer 3-Day!
No, you don’t have to walk 60 miles like some of us are doing … you don’t have to drive equipment trucks, serve food, patrol for safety, or administer First Aid. All you have to do is show up with some energy and enthusiasm … and Kleenex for Closing Ceremonies.
We start bright and early at 6:30 on Friday July 24. From there we walk 20 miles and camp for the night, walk another 20 each on Saturday and Sunday. The endpoint is at Closing Ceremonies on Sunday afternoon, held at UMass Boston.
Here’s a quick run-down of the official cheering stations for the event; full details including street addresses and parking info can be found on the Breast Cancer 3-Day website. You are welcome and invited to come to any of them. I’d especially encourage you to attend Closing Ceremonies on Sunday afternoon. I promise that you’ll be moved by this event, which manages to be a bittersweet mix of heart-breaking and heart-warming.

If you do make it to one of the cheering stations, look for a pair of walkers wearing white butterfly wings. That’ll be me and my walking partner; we’ll be wearing the names of those we’re walking in memory of, and in honor of, on our wings. You can send me a message on Twitter at @TooFondOfBooks if you’re at one of the stops and want to make sure we connect — I’d love to see some of my supporters face-to-face!
I’m still about $650 short of my fundraising minimum of $2300 … If you’d like to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust by sponsoring my Walk, you can donate online at the 3-Day website. Both groups support breast cancer initiatives including research, treatment, prevention and education.
That’s all for this week. Next week, it will be “3-Day Eve” in Beantown!!
