And the fun continues as we wrap up Week 3 of the Game On Challenge! Along with seriously responding to each other’s questions, and giving moral support when needed, we’re all having a great time teasing and taunting each other.
A few weeks ago I sent Jill at FizzyThoughts a book she was interested in reading. You remember that Jill is on Team Ding-Dong, right? Well, I’m a Twinkie, so I enclosed the official Twinkie calling card in the box … a two-pack of Twinkies
Jill declared, “This means war!” loud and clear on Twitter. I thought nothing more of it, until I got a mysterious Barnes & Noble box delivered to my front step. The box was addressed to “Ms. Twinkie” and was a gift from Team Ding-Dong … inside was this amazing cookbook:
Seriously. I just about spit out my lunch, I was laughing so hard when my little guy opened the box for me. Touche, Ding-Dongs, you got me.
In a week or so, I’ll give a full review of the gourmet delights awaiting those who dare to experiment with The Twinkies Cookbook. In the meantime, check out the Twinkie sushi my kids made this afternoon:

Can you guess any of the ingredients … aside from Twinkies!?!?
So, back to the Game On Diet … this continues to be a fun group effort. I know I couldn’t/wouldn’t be this disciplined on my own. The clothes I bought last spring and summer (after working for months to train for a race) fit comfortably again, I’ve gotten used to the 5 mini meals and quantities of water. The struggle for me continues to be breaking that old bad habit and gaining a new (positive) one … well, I’ll keep working on it.
I’m pleased that I made my weight goal (lose 1% of the week’s starting weight), so I got a 20% point bonus. I was so irritated to have missed this last week – not only did I not get the bonus, but I lost alcohol privileges for the rest of The Game, and couldn’t enjoy a glass of wine on my Day Off. I’ve lost 6.2 pounds since we started on June 29th!
Here are the Team results for Week 3 … I’ll add the HoHos when their score is tallied:
- Twinkies: 787.40
- Ding-Dongs: 745.46
- Ho-Hos:
Final results will come in next Monday … can you stand the wait?!?

Well I *do* know what is in Twinkie Sushi, because I consulted the Hostess Snack Cake recipe page at http://hostesscakes.com/recipes.asp . It will be clear to anyone who looks at this page that the Ding Dong recipes are the best! There’s even a Ding Dong wedding cake! What better way to start out wedded bliss?!!!
A Twinkie cookbook to your front door… hmmm, sounds like some strategic planning on their part. And if there are Twinkies around…in the form of sushi or another… be careful, one little bite might lead to another…
Sounds like you are doing great. Have a Ding-Dong on me
Congratulations!
I must say that Twinkie sushi doesn’t look a bit more appetizing to me than your regular run of the mill sushi.
How did the Twinkie sushi taste? LOL.
Hmm, Twinkie sushi. Without looking at the Web site, I would guess Gummi Bears or Gummi Fish?
Sounds like great progress. Group efforts could be great motivators. I’ll be waiting for more twinkie recipes.
Woo Hoo!! We rock!!!
Great post — and I love the sushi, how funny.
The experiment has been fun, but I’m looking forward to next week.
rhapsody – maybe there are some who would prefer a layered cake – faux-vanilla and over-processed chocolate
Nicole – it’s funny, I thought I’d be able to buy a big box of Twinkies for “cooking”, but at 3 stores I could find only the little 2-packs. Apparently not as popular as they were when I was in High School
stacy – ack! Did they hire you to throw me off track?! I will stay strong!
Lit Housewife – the kids had a blast making it (and were shocked, because I never buy Twinkies, “fruit by the foot”, etc.)
Ti – I’ll admit I tasted it – sticky sweet! The “seaweed” wrap overpowered everything else. The kids (with younger tastebuds) wanted more!
LuAnn – you’re heading in the right direction: Twinkies cut in 1-inch pieces, wrapped along the cake side w/green fruit roll-ups, cut up jelly beans in the creamy center. It makes my teeth ache to think about it now!
Violet – the group/team/competition aspect has been key! yes, we’ll make one more recipe to showcase when we review The Twinkie Cookbook.
Beth – me, too! I’m really happy with the way my clothes fit, and it’s been great fun. I haven’t felt deprived, but definitely more regimented than I like to be!
The Twinkies cookbook is just too funny, but it looks like your kids have had fun with it already! It sounds like you’re doing great with the diet!
It’s been fun keeping track of your progress. Glad you are having so much fun and losing weight/getting healthy at the same time. The sushi is a hoot.
Yay! Go Twinkies!!! I’m so proud of us and how far we’ve come!!
Oh, I love it – Twinkie sushi!! Congratulations on the weight loss!
Great job!
I lost my alcohol privileges this morning (sob!) and I have a fridge full of Bud Light (with lime!) that I was saving for my days off. Sigh…
On the plus side, I’ve been having 100 point days all week! Playing against one other person really brings out the competitive spirit.
You guys are too much! A lot of fun. Good luck on the weight loss.
Sounds like you guys are having a lot of fun as well as losing weight! I meant to ask last week, how much and what kinds of exercise are you doing? I ask because I am kind of stuck in a rut right now and am looking for some new ideas in my workout routine. Good job with all the weight loss and keep it up!
The Twinkie cookbook is hilarious. I’m glad you’re doing so well-that’s awesome! Keep it up!
Have you made the burritos yet?? Can I have your kids email address so I can bribe them to force feed you a Twinkie burrito?
Somehow your kids managed to make Twinkie-sushi look really good! you’re inspiring me with the healthy eating. I’m trying to cut down on sweets… but I did just sprinkle a few semi-sweet chocolate chips into my peanut butter sandwich. Ah, well!
Kathy – isn’t that just too much fun!??
Margot – most of us agree that we’ll keep a number of healthy habits we’ve developed.
Jenn – Twinkies have staying power
JoAnn – thank you!
Jessi – I feel your pain. I’m pre-ordering my favorite wine for Monday night, after we finish our 4-week Game.
Jeve – thanks so much, we really are having fun!
zibilee – everything from walking/running outside, treadmill, wii Fit, DVDs from the library, swimming, biking, hiking. This group really mixes it up! The accountability aspect is key.
Dar – watch out for those Ding Dongs
softdrink – speaking of Ding Dongs … hah! I’m one of those moms who doesn’t let the kids have their own email addresses yet … no luck for you!
sarah – next up in the cookbook: Twinkie burritos!
You guys are doing great! Can’t wait to hear the final results
And, Twinkie Sushi – that’s fantastic! haha…
Oh yeah….oh yeah…the Twinkies in the lead! Woo hoo! Probably due to your most excellent weight loss and extra bonus points! Hats off to you!!!
And I love the Twinkie war! Love it!
I must say, I’m intrigued by the fact that a Twinkie’s cookbook exists! Can’t wait to see some of the recipes you share!
