TEASER TUESDAYS is hosted by MizB at Should be Reading; I’ve modified this version to allow more than two sentences from anywhere on the page:
.
.
- Grab your current read.
- Let the book fall open to a random page.
- Share with us a “teaser” sentences from that page. Please share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
My teaser for this week … it’s only two sentences, but the first one is a full paragraph!:
The words flew at her like bats, but before she made any sense of them, and before everything else that was to follow – arraignments, indictment, preliminary hearing, sentencing – and even as guilt stood poised to swallow her in a towering black wave, she took one swift, light-washed sweep through her Pomelo Street home: the red Formica kitchen table and gleaming toaster in the breakfast nook, a blue vase stuffed with homegrown daisies on the baby grand, the front yard’s white-limbed sycamore and deep grass, all of it simmering, soaking in the thick yellow sunlight of late afternoon.
That life, she thought, that beautiful life is over.
Whew! A wave of emotions! The opening image, the words flew at her like bats, had me thinking of Tippi Hedren fending off birds in Hitchcock’s The Birds.
This teaser is from page 25 of Blame by Michelle Huneven. Patsy MacLemoore has just been arrested for an alcohol-infused double homicide.
The book releases on September 9, 2009. For you lucky folks on the west coast, Huneven will be at Vroman’s (L.A.) on September 9 and Book Passage (Corte Madera) on September 10.
Now, can you share a few teaser sentences from your current read?

What a pleasant image she paints with her words. I look forward to hearing more about this book.
That’s beautiful
Great teaser this week! My teaser accompanies a giveaway on my blog this week.
Now that is indeed wonderful. I have noted the details and I am off to investigate.
That was a mouthful! Incredible teaser. I’ve been seeing things about this book. Can’t wait to hear more.
Sounds like a good one..I’ll be looking for your review!
I felt bad for her until I read about her circumstances. Unless it wasn’t her but her husband who committed the crime. Looking forward to your review.
Here’s my teaser

Sheer poetry. I loved it!

My teasers are here: http://rundpinne.blogspot.com/2009/09/tuesday-teaser.html
What a collage of colors and emotions and thoughts! Makes for a chaotic scene, which I’m sure is the emotion we (and the character) are supposed to feel. Great teaser!
Mine is from Sarah Rees Brennan’s The Demon’s Lexicon.
I totally thought The Birds too!
That is quite a bit of emotions in the first sentence. I am left wondering if she is truly guilty or just a scapegoat here. Good teaser!
Whoa!!!!! I’ve just moved Blame up to near the top of the list. That is an awesome teaser.
Great imagery and simile too! Hope you enjoy it!
