I read and reviewed Geraldine Brooks’ People of the Book late last winter. I really enjoyed this work of historical fiction; based on the discovery of the Sarajevo Haggadah, Brooks imagines the journey of a book that is thousands of years old, protected by people from all walks of life. She works in reverse chronological order, revealing the origins of the Haggadah in the final flashback; the cycles of history, both the horror of persecution and the miracle of the Haggadah’s survival, repeat themselves.
A few months later, Brooks appeared for a presentation and book signing at our local bookstore. I had my book, and a second copy, signed by the author … I’ve been saving it for a special occasion!

I’ll leave you with a funny picture my daughter snapped of me with Geraldine Brooks. I was squatting to be at about the same height as her; it looks like she was afraid I’d fall on her. Fear not! Lots of walking and tree poses make me solid; I haven’t squished an author yet!
The winner (selected by random.org) is …..
#44 Lindymc !!
Congrats, Lindymc! Let me know where you are, and I’ll get the book in the mail to you.
