mailboxHow do you like my new mailbox?  Well, I wish it were my mailbox, but it is my photo; I captured it when we were down the Cape this summer.  And, since I took the pic in the late afternoon, and got this ugly shadow, I think I’ll have to go back next summer to get a clearer picture!  If this is the mailbox, I’d love to see what the inside of the house looks like … I imagine bookcases in every room!

Here’s what came in my (nondescript, standard issue) mailbox this week:dragon-tattoo

I won Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo from Ashley at Ashley’s Library (thank you!).  I’ve read so many great reviews of this and the next book The Girl Who Played with Fire.  It’s set to be a trilogy, but the author died before the third book was published (or even finished writing?).  I’m not sure what the status is on completing the trilogy … anyone know?  Oh, here’s a fun fact:  I just read softdrink’s review, and learned that the Swedish title of the book is Men Who Hate Women … what do you think of that?!?

temporary-tattooCoincidentally, I also won a The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo temporary tattoo from Carol at Carol’s Notebook.  How perfect is that timing?  Either I, or one of my kids, will wear the tattoo to display along with my review of the book.

You can read what came in other mailboxes over at Marcia’s The Printed Page.

What did you add to your bookshelves in the past week or so?

I want that mailbox! It is way too cool!

    Enjoy your book!

Here is my Monday post ttp://metroreader.blogspot.com/2009/09/mailbox-monday-september-28th.html

  • Fantastic mailbox! I hope you enjoy Dragon Tattoo as much as I did.

  • Thanks for telling the story behind the author of the dragon book, I hadn’t known that. I do know I have heard of the book countless times before, so I doubt you will not have any problems enjoying the book. That mailbox photo is indeed unique! I too wonder what their library looks like, next time you go, you’ll just have to knock on their door and tell them that there are inquiring bloggers who want to know. Let’s see what kind of reaction that emits!

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is on my list – I look forward to reading your review.

  • Great mailbox! I am so jealous of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO!

  • I have The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl that Played with Fire waiting on my bookshelf. I also won two dragon tattoos from The Literate Housewife. Just a warning–those suckers do not want to come off! After five days, I finally had to take my body scrub to it and by the time it was all off, my skin was pink and raw.

  • I want that mailbox so badly. I live in an apartment building, so I can’t customize my mailbox at all. It’s an awful gray metal door amongst the many other boxes for the complex.

  • That mailbox is fabulous! I want the deets! Is it custom made? Is the owner a book blogger? If you go back, I think you should knock on their door and say “hello.”

  • What a great mailbox – I want one! :)

I hope you’ll really enjoy Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I read it earlier this year and think it’ll make my best of mystery year end list. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series.

  • I very much like the “Dragon Tattoo”…not as much “Played With Fire”. But of course I agree that is a great mailbox!

  • I really enjoyed the backstory on The Dragon Tattoo book. That is one I have on my Wish List.

  • Love the mailbox and loved the book!! I too got a tatoo (which I won).

  • I love the mailbox and I can’t wait to see what you think of the book!

  • Great mailbox, and congratulations on winning Stieg Larsson´s book.

As a Scandinavian I have read all three, so I can assure you he did not die until he was writing no 4. And it is possible to read no 1 as a stand-alone. Two and three should be read in the correct order, though, and no two might feel oddly unsatisfactory if you didn´t know there was a third.
I have not reviewed the first two as I read them before I began blogging, but I have written two articles about the main characters who are inspired by some famous Astrid Lindgren characters.

  • wow – a book AND a tattoo! You’re so edgy.

  • I read this book a few weeks ago, and I think I’m in the minority on my opinion of it. I think the problem was that I don’t really gravitate towards mystery/thrillers, so I had some trouble with it. I have heard that most who have read it just love it, so I’m sure it is just me being too picky. I hope you enjoy it, and I look forward to reading your review.

  • I love that mailbox. . . and yes – you’ll simply have to go back next year to get a better picture (although I really like this one) ;)

I was really interested in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

    Here’s my Mailbox! ~ Wendi

  • Love the mailbox! Enjoy the book – and the tattoo! : )

  • I wanted to read this book, but the sexual content/discussion/thoughts and the language were to much for me. I have to admit though, that I love the cover!

That mailbox should rule over all other mail boxes. I’m going to snicker at my lame milky-grey excuse for a mailbox next time I check it. ) : Do take another picture and knock on the door to ask the owners where in the world they got it! Haha, see ya!

  • Eva

Like Dorte H said, Larsson was 200 pages into the fourth installment when he passed away, so the first three are complete. He was planning a 10-book series and had the plots worked out for books 4, 5, and 6 already. Too bad we won’t get to see those! :)

That mailbox is beyond brilliant! :)

  • Kim & Cathy (and all who commented on the bookshelf mailbox!) – yes, I’m tempted to write a letter to the homeowners asking where they got the mailbox. It might freak them out, though … “to whom it may concern, a bunch of imaginary friends and I were admiring your mailbox …”

Marie – I didn’t get the story about Larsson completely right, though. See Dorte’s and Eva’s comments about Larsson’s published work (and in progress)

Julie and gautami – I would have purchased it eventually, but it’s very fun to WIN a book, yes?

Stephanie – thanks for the warning. Did you try rubbing alcohol?

Amanda and Gwendolyn – my mailbox is the grey/silver big box on a post at the end of the driveway. Dullsville!

  • iliana – I’ll go back and re-read your review.

Caite – I don’t yet have the second book (but it’s on my wish list). I like to know “what happens next?!”

Lisa – I was patient to wait for it in paperback.

Beth F. – heed the warning about the permanence of the tattoo!

Kathy – you know you’ll get a long-winded opinion from me.

Carol – Yes! I should find where they purchased it and sell it via my blog :)

Dorte – thanks so much for filling me in. I usually do some research about an author after I’ve read the book, and clearly have the some incomplete facts that I’ve accumulated.

Eva – your comment helped, too; so sad that his work will be incomplete. I guess no one’s work is ever complete (I’m getting philosophical here)

Care – you have no idea how edgy!

  • It would be hard to resist a look inside that mailbox!!! They must have something fantastic in there!

And I want to read this series now that I’ve heard everyone rave about it so much.

  • Love the mailbox, and I’ll bet they have some great bookshelves inside, too!! I’d almost be tempted to knock on the door…

  • I am so loving that mailbox! You need to knock on their door and ask them where they got it! Homemade? Online shopping? If I showed up with that mailbox, it would put my husband right over the edge! I have Dragon Tatoo loaded on my iPod, just need to find a chunk of days to listen to it! Soon hopefully!

  • zibilee – you’re not being too picky – your opinion is your own, don’t let anyone talk you out of it :)

Wendi – I’ll check out your mailbox.

Mary – I may let one of my kids wear the tattoo (or save it to wear to some stuffy party, with an off-the-shoulder dress!)

Madeleine – I haven’t yet begun the book, so I wonder how it will strike me … stay tuned …

Jenners – I was hoping they weren’t home when I took the picture. It was the last day of our vacation, or I would have gone back and tried another day for a pic without shadow.

JoAnn – I know; I want to know the story behind the mailbox!

Sandy – I think my mailman would go over the edge. I think he wonders what come in all those plain brown wrappers.

  • On your next trip, you should just appropriate the mailbox. I’m sure it would look much better at your house. :-D

  • And look…purple avatar! Not sure why it chose to show up, but maybe it read your email.

  • LOVE the mailbox! You should try to find it online! :)

  • It’s official. That is the coolest mailbox ever in existence.

  • I love that photo and would love to have that mailbox for myself. I have the dragon tattoo on my tbr shelf and just picked up the next in the trilogy. I’ve been wondering if he finished writing the third book.

  • thanks for sharing the pic and yes, I’d love to see the inside of the house!
