Here are my two teaser sentences:
Turns out that Monroe’s Santa Claus wore a camouflage suit, combat boots, and a green beret, and he parachuted into the parking lot of Howard Brothers Department Store on Louisville. You could see that he was aiming for the bed of a Ford pickup, but a gust of wind carried him into the Nativity scene, where he knocked over and decapitated a Wise Man.
This is from John Dufresne’s Requiem, Mass., a sharply written novel in which the very unreliable narrator is a novelist telling the reader about his unusual childhood. Requiem, Mass. has been my ‘in the car’ book for the past week or so; I’d read it in bits and pieces while waiting to pick up the kids, or standing in line at the Post Office. Yesterday I decided that I had to bring it out of the car and into the house, and plan to spend some time finishing it today.

Oh no, the poor Wise Man. I guess that is what you get for trying to parachute into the bed of a truck.

Love that – I have books that I read at different times, too. I used to keep one just for the gym, for reading on the treadmill. Good motivation.
