… as chosen by a dozen book bloggers.
Flashlight Worthy Book Recommendations asked us to chose our pick for the Best Book Club Selection of 2009. What makes a “best” discussion group book? In my opinion, it has to be well-written, highly discussable (which may include controversy), and one that is fairly new on the bookstore shelves (so that it’s a first read for most of the group).
My pick was Masha Hamilton’s 31 Hours (my review). Click here to see why I selected it, and to read the rest of the list.

I was so proud to see you and other bloggers I know on that list!
I know, I was proud too. I actually printed the thing out and took it to my book club last night. Of course, they had heard of NONE of the books, and I was just shaking my head. It was my turn to pick, and I decided that even though I’ve already read it, to have them read “The Help”. I’ll probably re-read, this time on audio. You guys did a great job with that list.
The list had several titles I haven’t yet read. Including, Sandy, THE HELP! I have the book, but I lent it to a friend before I got a chance to read it … time to schedule a coffee date and reclaim it
Wow, congrats. Great selection, at least it seems to be — I haven’t read it. I also loved Booking Mama’s suggestions…its such a great book.
excellent choices and good prerequisites! read eight of them. I can’t pick just one. Masha’s 31 Hours is one of the favorites. My book club picked The Gargoyle last year and Monday will be the night to discover this year’s choice. we’ll see!
Great choice!
I’ve read The Help, Cost, and Beach Trip. I’m looking forward to The Day The Falls Stood Still in March with my book club. Haven’t read 31 Hours but I hear nothing but great things about it.
I’ll have to check this out!
I have read Labor Day and The Help, but neither were for my book club.
Whoever is hosting a certain month gets to choose the book.
