Teaser Tuesdays: thoughts as deep as snow drifts

TEASER TUESDAYS is hosted by MizB at Should be Reading; I’ve modified this version to allow more than two sentences from anywhere on the page:

  • Grab your current read.
  • Let the book fall open to a random page.
  • Share with us one or two “teaser” sentences” from that page.  Please share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!

Here are my two teaser sentences:

Snow frightens me:  its relentlessness; its power to cover up all that’s familiar.  I leaned my chin against the back of the couch and watched the feathery dots smash against the window.

This is from Woman Made of Sand, a book of linked short stories by Joann Kobin.  I absolutely love her writing; it’s soft, yet powerful, much like the snow she describes in these two sentences.  Have you ever heard snow described as feathery, yet able to smash at the same time?  It’s a wonderful contradiction that made me pause when I read it.

What are you reading this week?  Would you share a few teaser sentences?
