TEASER TUESDAYS is hosted by MizB at Should be Reading; I’ve modified this version to allow more than two sentences from anywhere on the page:
- Grab your current read.
- Let the book fall open to a random page.
- Share with us one or two “teaser” sentences” from that page. Please share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
Here are my teaser sentences:
He looked carefully at the partially finished wall, looked at the stones that ranged from perhaps five pounds to fifty, then back at the wall before selecting a stone from the pile. … He was in no hurry nor rush – I would come to understand that he cared more about the building than the completion – and my heart said, I will cast my lot with this calm, deliberate man who cares about the fit and rightness of things.
A month later when he asked, “Mrs. Dozier, could you ever see your way into a future with me?” I answered readily, “I am already there, Mr. Donner.”
I love this excerpt! It’s from Gabrielle Burton’s Impatient with Desire, the imagined journal of Tamsen Donner, who, with her
husband George, their five children, and eighty others, comprised the legendary Donner Party. The title refers to not a bodice-ripper type of impatience with desire, but, rather, the wanderlust that Tamsen Donner felt; it was her desire to travel, to experience, to explore.
This teaser is from a section of the journal in which Tamsen describes the very brief courtship of her and George Donner. Her “I am already there, Mr. Donner” so struck me with its romantic certainty.
Is Impatient with Desire on your reading wish list? Can you share a few sentences from the book you’re reading now?

This author is new to me – might have to see if the library has this book
HERE is my teaser for this week!
I must show this to Mr. BFR — and then must track down the book.
Yes, Impatient with Desire is on my wish list!
This sounds absolutely tempting and totally captured my interest.

I love that! I’ve been trying to decide if I want to read this book and that excerpt has convinced me. Thanks for sharing! Here’s my teaser for Watermark.
Aww, very sweet teaser. Mine is at The Crowded Leaf.
Oh, this sounds sooo good. They seem like a well matched pair – a patient caring man and a woman who appreciates those qualities.
My TT is here
Have a great week and happy reading!
Sounds like something I like to read
Here’s mine.

Beautiful teaser and it sounds like quite an interesting read. My TT: http://www.rundpinne.com/2010/05/teaser-tuesdays-sea-witch.html
Now, that sounds really interesting! I might have to read this book (even though I know how Tamsen’s story must end).
That is really such a romantic excerpt. Melted my cold little heart! It would be hard to have not heard of this book by now. Which is really a good thing, as I wouldn’t have given it a second glance based on the title.
great teaser and this book is the second one from the top on my TBR stack.
Please check mine out!
Very interesting teaser – made me go out and look for other books on the Donner Party. Here is mine
I’ve been on the fence about this one but that passage makes me think my decision is made!
interesting teaser. Here is mine http://limpetsandpenguins.blogspot.com/2010/05/teaser-tuesday-100504-and-reflections.html
Thanks to all who commented on this Teaser. I haven’t read much about the Donner party, but feel that Gabrielle Burton has done an excellent combination of fact and imagining. She has written a non-fiction book about the Donner group, as well, and has clearly done a lot of research!
I wanted to explain the title in case any of you, like me (and Sandy), thought it was a different genre
