*To Kill a Mockingbird* moment: something for the eyes, ears, and wallet!

For the eyes:
Join Heather at Capricious Reader and me as we host a To Kill a Mockingbird film (1962) party.  Watch the film adaptation in the comfort of your own home, or a friend’s sofa, or on your laptop in bed, and live-tweet your thoughts and reactions using the hashtag #tkam;  Heather is @capriciousReadr and I’m @TooFondOfBooks.  Reserve your library/netflix copy now; we’ll start the movie at 8:30 pm on Friday, July 30 … BYOP (Bring Your Own Popcorn).  Gregory Peck (deep sigh!) … need I say more?!

For the ears:
This is audiobook week, and I’d be remiss in not mentioning that the audiobook edition of To Kill a Mockingbird is available from HarperCollins.  The link above will take you to the publisher’s website, where you can click a link to hear an audio excerpt.  Have any of you listened to this classic on audio?  I’ve only read the print edition, but I think I’d enjoy listening to this!

For the wallet:
Have you ever looked at the ads for Bauman Rare Books that sometimes run on the back of the New York Times Book Review (Sunday supplement)?  This one ran a few weeks ago, and inscribed first edition (1960) of To Kill A Mockingbird.  Guess how much?!  Higher.  Higher.  Higher.  You’re getting warmer.  Warmer.  Yes, $35,000!

  • So, did you buy that inscribed version? LOL

  • The audio version of To Kill A Mockingbird is my favorite audiobook. The one I listened to was narrated by Sissy Spacek. I’m not sure of the spelling, but she’s the Oscar-winning actress. Her southern accent won me over.

  • Beth Hoffman

Whoa, $35.000.00! I’ll run right out and buy it. LOL!

  • Hey! I just had a birthday! Someone can buy it for me! hee hee

That audio book is really one in a million. Sissy Spacek IS Scout. I would highly recommended it anyone and everyone, even if you are not an audio fan.

  • I want to listen to the audio version of this one. Loved that book.

  • I’ll watch, I’ll watch! Of course, that means I’ve got to remember. You will remind me, right?!

  • Kathy – maybe when the kids are out of college I’ll have that kind of pocket change!

Margot – you’ve convinced me that I need to get the audiobook … not sure I’ll be able to get to it this month, but I’ll try.

    Beth – get two, they’re small :)

Sandy – happy (belated) birthday! I’m sure your husband and kids have forgotten where they hid the book after they wrapped it.

diane – Margot and Sandy have me adding the audio of TKAM to my wishlist

Lisa – I’ll remind you, yes! My blog readers won’t be able to avoid my TKAM reminders next month.

  • I’m thinking of the audio version for this reread.

  • Is the movie time 8:30 EASTERN time? Cause if it is, I might just have to settle for dreaming about Gregory Peck.
