Spotlight on Bookstores: *Sandy's Books and Bakery* in Rochester, VT

Today’s Spotlight on Bookstores was submitted by Lisa.  You may remember Lisa’s winning essay inJennie Nash’s Mother’s Day contest; clearly she has a love of reading … and a love of bookstores!  Lisa’s spotlight post refers to Seasoned Books, which recently changed its name to Sandy’s Books and Bakery.  I’ve left Lisa’s essay as she wrote it, and hope changing the name in the post title will help bookstore tourists to find it … books, bakery, and a gorgeous garden … sounds like it’s time for a road trip!

I have a friend who is as passionate about reading as I am.

We were on our way to another destination, when we
stumbled on the Seasoned Bookstore and Cafe in Rochester Vermont.

This bookstore has everything, a wonderful cafe, both used and new books, wonderful eclectic art and a lovely garden outside.  We both found books we had been looking for and enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee, surrounded by books and other treasures.

I often think of this bookstore, as it reminds me of how much I value my friendship with my fellow voracious reader, and has expanded into many day trips to find independent bookstores in New England.

I encourage you to visit Sandy’s Books and Bakery, if only via the internet.  Peter Manship’s photos of the interior, exterior, and bakery offerings (!) will have you drooling!

  • Wow, books and a bakery. I’d be in heaven.

  • Hey! Who stole my name and my idea?!

Lisa, this is about us! Imagine my surprise when sitting down with a cup of coffee to peruse my favorite book blogs and finding this entry that you wrote about our friendship and our love of reading and exploring bookstores. I too treasure our friendship and our shared book experiences! I hope that every avid reader has a friend as great as Lisa who can expand their horizons both in literature and travel, especially when setting off together to explore Independent Bookstores! Lisa and I loved this town and bookstore so much we were planning which houses to buy here when we retire.

Thanks Darla, and everyone. We are lucky to be married to men who let us walk into the house with loaded bags of books!
