The lovely Kathy at BermudaOnion offers another wonderful Spotlight on Bookstores post. If you follow Kathy’s blog, you’ve been introduced to Fiction Addiction in some of her posts about the Book Your Lunch events she’s attended (here are links to her write-ups about Heather Newton and Under the Mercy Trees, Donna Ball and A Year on Ladybug Farm, and George Singleton and The Half-Mammals of Dixie).
… and if you’re not following Kathy’s blog, check out www.bermudaonion.net – that’s right, BermudaOnion is master of her domain, so update your RSS feed to make sure you’re catching all her latest news.
Fiction Addiction is Greenville, South Carolina’s only independent bookstore that sells new books as well as used books. It may be small in size, but it’s big on fun! Since space is limited, the emphasis is on quality rather than quantity in this quaint bookstore. Add a friendly, helpful staff and you’ve got a recipe for success!
Jill Hendrix, the owner of Fiction Addiction, has worked in New York City for St. Martin’s Press as well as some internet start-ups, but concluded ten years ago, that she wanted to return to her upstate South Carolina home. She decided to create her own job and the result was Fiction Addiction! The store will be celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
Customers are kept well informed with a fantastic monthly e-mail newsletter that highlights events as well as new and notable releases. If the store doesn’t carry what you’re looking for, they’re happy to order it for you. They’ve ordered books for me on several occasions and they’ve always come in quickly.
I have to admit that my favorite thing about Fiction Addiction is its wonderful author events. Besides great book signings, and even some book launches, the store hosts a wonderful event called Book Your Lunch. These events are held at great local restaurants and for $25, those in attendance get a fabulous lunch as well as an author talk, question and answer session and book signing. And, if you buy your ticket early, you can sit at the author’s table. It’s hard to beat books and food!
If you ever find yourself in upstate South Carolina, be sure to stop by Fiction Addiction.
Thanks for sharing this, Kathy! The pictures are lots of fun – I’d love to visit Fiction Addiction – and you! – in South Carolina!

Yes, that Kathy is lovely! And eviable to have such a cool bookstore in her area. I keep thinking that there is an amazing opportunity in Orlando because we have squat!
Thanks for posting this, Dawn! Anyone near the upstate needs to check out Fiction Addiction!
Sounds like proof that good things come in small packages! Thanks for telling us about Fiction Addiction, Kathy
I will have to look it up. Not sure how far Greenville is from Myrtle Beach. But it sounds like it may be worth the trip.
When I met Kathy, she told me a lot about this store, and I would love the chance to visit it one day. I may have to go out and visit her and check it out!

I love Kathy’s blog and I want to thank you both for letting us know about Fiction Addiction. I love the idea of Book Your Lunch.
I had the opportunity to meet Kathy because Jill (owner of Fiction Addiction) put on a fantastic author/luncheon event for me. They are two of my favorite people!
I would just LOVE LOVE LOVE to go to this bookstore! How lovely it is!

Jealous! Fiction Addiction looks like such a fun place. The Book Your Lunch idea is an awesome one, too — wish they had something like that close to D.C.!
If I am ever in Greenville I will definitely have to stop in and visit this bookstore. Book Your Lunch is a brilliant idea.
I am so jealous of the Book Your Lunch program. Wish we had that at a local bookstore!
I am extremely jealous that you get to meet so many author’s through this store’s lunches!
What a fun bookstore! I would love to visit and definitely attend a Book Your Lunch program! And Kathy is one definitely one of my favorite bloggers!
Now this looks like a bookstore I’d be happy to get lost in for hours! Wonderful spotlight!
That sounds like a lovely book store that really goes the extra distance when it comes to events. I wish we had something like that here.
I love the name of the store! And based on all the photos I’ve seen of Kathy with authors, she takes advantage of the author events.
That is so wonderful! I wish I had a book store like that in my area. We have a couple used book stores and one called Book World which hardly does anything to promote authors…. in fact the best spot in the area – is our library.
I would love to visit Kathy’s book store. Great post Kathy and Dawn!
Fabulous write up! I am so envious that Kathy has such a great bookstore.
[...] Spotlight on Bookstores: *Fiction Addiction* in Greenville, South Carolina [...]
I have followed (and envied) Kathy’s book and author lunches so I had to see what the sponsoring bookstore looked like. I’m amazed that such a small store has so much going for it. It just proves that someone with a big heart and great ideas can do wonderful things for others. Great spotlight.
hey, love your post!
