Are you joining the club? Club Read!

Club Read is:

  • October 15-16, 2011
  • a weekend away at Mariner’s Landing Resort and Conference Center in Huddleston, Virginia
  • featuring a dozen authors who will mix and mingle at casual dinners, as well as present on panels specific to topics in their very discussable books (great picks for book groups!)
  • attended by readers like you – book group members, individuals seeking a book club experience, and readers of all types
  • inclusive of four meals, break-out sessions, sleeping accommodations, and free internet access

These book-club-friendly authors include some of my favorites.  How many of these authors have you read?  I’ve listed their most recent works:

  • Adriana Trigiani – Don’t Sing at the Table
  • Joyce Maynard – The Good Daughters
  • Sena Jeter Naslund - Adam & Eve
  • Gretchen Rubin – The Happiness Project
  • Jessica Anya Blau – Drinking Closer to Home
  • Amy Stolls - The Ninth Wife
  • Matthew Norman – Domestic Violets
  • Dolen Perkins-Valdez – Wench
  • Heather Newton – Under the Mercy Trees
  • Greg Olear – Father-Mucker
  • Caroline Todd (of Charles Todd) – A Bitter Truth
  • Susan Henderson - Up from the Blue

Supported by (again, some of my favorites!):

Check out Club Read’s 11-chapter schedule of events (isn’t that clever!), including themed meals, author panels, a Twitter Time Q&A with the authors (all answers must be composed in 140 characters or less — that will push editing skills!), and a milk & cookies PJ party with bedtime readings.  Plus, lots of informal chatting with authors, sponsors, members of other books clubs, and people like you who can’t get enough reading time!

Club Read – A reader’s retreat where books mean the world!

  • I’ll be there! Are you going?

  • I haven’t heard of any of these authors. Okay, back under my rock.

  • Oh, I wish there was some way for me to be there, as it sounds like a fantastic event! I hope that you come back an post a huge recap with lots of pictures, Dawn!

  • Unfortunately, I won’t be attending. I hope everyone has a great time and for sure reports back and takes lots of photos to share.

  • Does this mean you’re going? If so, I’m going to be green with envy!

  • Kathy – I saw that you are going! No, this is one of those “can’t be two places at the same time” weekends for me. I’m scheduled for an event at the bookshop that day and can’t get away. I’m really looking forward to your updates, though!

Katharine -oh, you must get reading! :) so many books, so little time …

zibilee – I didn’t mean to mislead … I’m not able to go! Just a PSA for people who can get to Virginia that weekend, to take in the bookish getaway. I’ve learned that the closest airport is Lynchburg (19 miles), and Roanoke is only 30 miles away. Doesn’t the resort look lovely?

Serena – The photos and stories after Club Read will be great!

softdrink – boo hoo, not I! Hey, you may be seeing me in Boston around this time … is that any consolation?!

  • Oh WHAT?!?! This is so COOL! Have, like, the best time. Really wish I could go.

  • This looks fun. I have read books by 6 of these authors.
