“An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving” by Louisa May Alcott
“An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving” is a Louisa May Alcott short story that was originally published in the Aunt Jo’s Scrapbag collection
"Orchard House" - the Alcott home in Concord
The first paragraph includes this timely reminder:
They were poor in money, but rich in land and love, for the wide acres of wood, corn, and pasture land fed, warmed, and clothed the flock, while mutual patience, affection, and courage made the old farmhouse a very happy home.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating today!

Thanks for the link, Dawn. Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy day, safe travels, and enjoy your family.
Just perfect for the day – Happy Thanksgiving, Dawn!
Happy Thanksgiving, Dawn!
I love LMA, what an appropriate quote for the day! I wish you and yours a blessed Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for this post. I live not too far from Concord, MA (we live in Southern NH) and sadly, I’ve never been to the LMA house. I’m planning on reading more of LMA’s books because I enjoyed Little Women and LMA was somewhat unusual for women during her time (which I find admirable). So thank you for this post!
Happy Thanksgiving Dawn! I still wish I could come visit and see your area.
I hope you are rich in love and family today.
Happy Thanksgivinng to you and yours, Dawn!
This does seem like it would be a perfect story for this time of year. I hope that you had an amazing turkey day with your husband and kids, and that you have a wonderful post holiday weekend as well. We are not braving the stores today, and instead will be staying at home and being very lazy. No fighting the crowds for me!
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
I’ve been trying (to no avail, until now) to figure out which versions of this book contain the original text. Thanks so much! I almost ordered an illustrated version that I now know is adapted. So glad I waited! (Do you know of any illustrated versions that contain the original text?)
BTW, LOVE your blog name.
