It’s that time of year – assessing how we’ve met the goals we set last year, and choosing what we’ll conquer this coming year.
2011 was A Year of No (or Few!) Challenges for me. And I met that goal head-on! :)
2012 will be A Year of a Select Few Challenges (I’m getting bolder).
I’ll continue a few of the perpetual reading challenges I’ve committed to – these are basically reading through the imprints (Reagan Arthur and Amy Einhorn). I may add another fun challenge that I did for a few years, but stayed away from during 2011′s self-imposed challenge ban (can you guess which one?!)
And, I’m joining the Get Moving Fitness Challenge (the challenge formerly known as the 100 Mile Fitness Challenge). It’s a set-your-own-goals type of challenge – you can measure miles, hours, days, laps, depending on the type of movement and your personal goals. I’m sticking with the original plan – my goal is to walk 100 miles during the first quarter of 2012.
I’m seeking ideas on how to motivate myself. I do well with visuals (yes, I’m making a graph/grid, and will be coloring in boxes for each mile I complete), and I do well with rewards (I really am a simple woman!). But what carrot should I hold out in front as I walk (and walk, and walk)? Because, let’s face it – a literal carrot is not going to motivate me!
Are you interested in joining the challenge? Details are over here at the aptly named Get Moving Fitness Challenge blog! Set your goals, grab the button … and get moving! Good luck and have fun!

I’m avoiding most reading challenges for 2012, but the fitness challenge looks like just what I need. I’ll have to give that one a look.
I’m laying low on the challenges in 2012, but we’ll be walking. We walk a mile a day now and will be bumping it up on January 1. Good luck to you.
I’m not sure if I’m doing more than three challenges this year — two perpetual and my What’s in a Name. Things could change. My biggest motivator this fall has been a weekly email weigh-in with three friends. It’s really difficult to post that number every Friday morning.
The two things that work for me with exercise are setting a specific time of day to walk (so it’s just part of your daily routine) and audiobooks.
I think every 25 miles should equal a book of your choice! This is a great challenge, and one that I might consider joining, as I am planning on adding a substantial bit of exercise to my routine. I already do about a half hour a day, but I would love to increase that by another hour!
Good luck with the Get Moving Fitness Challenge. I will definitely be ramping up my healthy eating and fitness goals for 2012!
