What do you get when you combine a curious Little Pig (“My name is Jacob!”), a creative author/illustrator, and a group of inquisitive young listeners? … a fun afternoon of stories, music, and grins all around!
David Hyde Costello visited the Bookshop to read and sign his newest picture book, Little Pig Joins the Band. The premise of the book really struck a chord with young readers, especially those who have older siblings or other family members who seem to always be telling them “no, you’re too young to do that.”:
“Little Pig has trouble keeping up with his older–and bigger–siblings. When they get out Grandpa’s old marching-band instruments, Little Pig is too little to play any of them. However, he gets a big idea: the disorganized band could use a leader.”
He’s also the author/illustrator of I Can Help and Here They Come. In addition to his work with children’s picture books, he has worked on set design for Broadway musicals (Hello Dolly) and films (Spiderman, and Angels in America), and created puppets for several theater productions.
