Because you are reading She Is Too Fond of Books, I suspect that you, too, enjoy the written word.

Have I got a fun field trip for you, if you are within driving distance of Lincoln, Massachusetts — you’ll want to get yourself to the Clark Gallery before the PICTURE BOOKS exhibition closes on August 6.

What do you call an outrageous display of bookish love?!

It’s Bookrageous!

How’s that again?

Bookrageous is a movement of people who love books and will do, well, outrageous things to share that love.  Note that I’m using dictionary.com’s fifth definition of outrageous here, highly unusual or unconventional; extravagant; remarkable, nothing offensive. Usually.

Check out the Bookrageous tumblr, follow @bookrageous on twitter (you can also search for the hashtag #bookrageous), [...]

He is also 'too fond of books!'

Yes, he really said that!

You can imagine that we have more than a few books lying around the house.  And when I say “lying,” I mean lounging around wherever they may be most comfortable.

The bookcases are a bit crowded, so many of the books have hopped down and started an apartment complex of sorts around the walls of the [...]

*To Kill a Mockingbird* viewalong wrap-up

On July 30, @CapriciousReadr and I gathered with several others on Twitter to live-tweet our reactions as we viewed the 1962 movie adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird.  We each settled in with our beverage and snack of choice (I was only kidding about the Alabama Slammers!), and pressed “Play” simultaneously.

What kinds of things did [...]

On my husband's summer reading list

Lately J has been complaining (a bit) about the stacks of books around the house.  Easily remedied, I tell him, by adding bookcases to the living room.  He sighs and walks away, muttering something that sounds like “how many books can you read in a lifetime?” but might actually be “if I drown in these [...]

Q: What has 75 helium balloons and waddles?

A:  Penguin Books celebrating the 75th anniversary of the imprint!

That’s right, today, July 30, marks 75 years since the launch of Penguin Books – and they’re celebrating in several very big ways:

The Penguin Mobile is touring with Penguin authors.  They ride in style in this special Mini Cooper in Penguin orange, emblazoned with the Penguin [...]

Readalong Thoughts on *To Kill a Mockingbird* (Part II)

This readalong post is FULL OF SPOILERS!  Skip right past it if you haven’t read the book!

But, before you go … I want to make sure you’ve read this great guest post from earlier in the week, in which an educator shares her approach to getting her students into the minds of the TKAM characters.

Guest post: An educator's creative *To Kill a Mockingbird* lesson

When I first posted about the 50th anniversary celebration for Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, I received many positive responses from people who had read the book (some recently, some ages ago) and had felt a great impact.

One blogging friend, Constance at Perfect Retort, told me that her niece’s 7th Grade English class recently completed a [...]

A New Transcendentalism, or simply American Gothic - SITFOB style?

J and I took the kids canoeing yesterday - something we’d talked about doing since we moved to this area three years ago.  It’s fun to be a tourist in your own town, and to enjoy things that other people travel distances to do.

We had two canoes – the boys in one, girls in the other [...]
