Happy *Very Valentine* Day! Giveaway of Adriana Trigiani's novel, now in paperback

You’ve read my review of Very Valentine (you have read my review, right?) .

You’ve seen the yummy chocolate biscotti I made from a recipe in the back of the book (and wished you could eat some, right?).

Now, to celebrate the paperback release of Very Valentine, HarperCollins is offering a copy of this novel to THREE lucky readers of She is Too Fond of Books!  The timing is perfect, because the second Valentine book, Brava, Valentine, has just been released – you’ll be able to read Very Valentine, then pick up Brava, Valentine for a double dose of this wonderful story about a 30-something shoemaker in Greenwich Village; a winning mix of old tradition with contemporary flair.

To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment below, sharing a Valentine memory or tradition.  This giveaway post will be open for comments until midnight EST on Friday, February 26; three winners will be drawn randomly, and announced on Saturday, February 27.  Giveaway is open to US/Canada mailing addresses only; no P.O. • Well, the best Valentine story would be the one from 1999. A great bottle of Califorinian bubbly and a night out resulted in my son. It doesn’t get any better than that! I am completely psyched about these books. (Yes I did read your review, and I’m still thinking about that chocolate biscotti!)

  • Since I’ve been single for most of my life during the Valentine’s season, my tradition is to buy myself flowers (not necessarily roses since they’re expensive this time of year), make myself a nice meal, and watch a sappy chic-flick.

  • My then boyfriend, now husband, got engaged in Florence Italy on Valentine’s Day 12 years ago!! It doesn’t get any better than that!

What a lovely giveaway. This book is a treasure. A memory that I hold onto tight is a very special day spent with my husband driving to a mountain retreat.

  • My favorite Valentine’s Day memory is of a date with the man who became my husband. We were high schoolers, planning to go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day, but with no clue that we needed to make reservations on that busy day. LOL We spent a long time talking while we waited to get seated, and then had to go home before we even got to sit down because it was too close to our curfews. :) We ended up going through the drive thru for dinner!

One of my favorite Valentine’s Day memories is when my husband-to-be made me heart-shaped meatloaf for dinner. And guess what? Now that we’ve been married almost 21 years and have two teenagers, he’s making it again for all of us tonight. It doesn’t get better than that!
I’d love to win the book–I’m a fan!

  • My favorite Valentine memory happened just today — in fact, not more than a half hour ago — when my 6-year-old grandson handed me a card he made especially for his grandma! How can you beat that for love?

  • DarcyO

My favorite Valentine memory is wine and roses from my hubby along with a romantic movie.

  • Lindsey

My favorite Valentine tradition is those little candy hearts.

  • hmmmm…..I love the romance of Valentine’s Day – such as the first one that my husband and I were dating. Great dinner, wine, roses, and just feeling loved. But there’s also something so special about that first valentine that your child makes for you all by her or himself that says “I love you, Mommy!”

Love Adriana’s books — thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  • Diane K.

If I win the book, I will create a NEW tradition of making those biscotti for Valentine’s Day from now on.

  • Heather S

Our valentine tradition is making heart shaped sugar cookies and frosting them with each other, then we write little messages on them!

  • Suncassie

Probably today. Breakfast in bed with my husband and 5 year old daughter. We exchanged cards and gifts that she made. It was very sweet.

  • Karen M

My favorite Valentine memory is my husband making me a hand-made card. It was so special because it was something that he created. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Victoria

Favorite tradition is reading books together about Valentine’s Day. I loved it when my mom did it with me as a child and now I do it with mine! By the way, this looks like a really fun book.

i remember collecting valentines in grade school from my classmates…and keeping them in a shoe box decorated w/ red and white hearts.

  • Most of my memories of Valentine’s Day go back to my grade school days when we decorated shoe boxes with cut-out holes and brought those little cheap Valentines that came in packs large enough to give one to each member of your homeroom class. We actually resurrected that in an academic library where I worked once among the student workers. It was fun then, especially when many of the international students had never exchanged Valentines in that manner.

  • Mystica

I love Valentine’s crafty items – the quilted items etc and now to collect them.

  • No need to enter me, though the chocolate biscotti is tempting. Just popping over to say I posted this giveaway in my sidebar for you. Good luck everyone!

My first Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend promised to be phenomenal: it was early in our relationship, but my company had organized a ski trip that weekend, so I thought, what could be more romantic than a weekend of flying over white slopes, then curling up in front of a crackling fire?

Unfortunately, I had never skied on a hill with a ski lift before, and the first time we got to the top of the hill, I promptly fell face first into the snow, causing the ski lift to stop while I struggled to my feet. This happened over… and over… and over… until I was practically on the verge of tears. My boyfriend was very patient and encouraging, but I was so humiliated I practically ordered him to go ski some more challenging hills without me “so at least one of us will have a good time!”

The day ended with me hobbling back to the lodge, soaking wet and with a re-awakened knee injury, to find that the hotel restaurant was fully booked (of course, it was Valentine’s Day weekend!). So when the boyfriend came in off the slopes, instead of the romantic dinner we envisioned, we made do with M&Ms and beef jerky from the hotel gift shop, before falling asleep exhausted.

Not nearly the most romantic Valentine’s Day — in fact, I’d never want to repeat it! But our awful Valentine’s Day has become a running joke, and although every subsequent one has been better than the last, that first one remains far and away the most memorable!

  • No traditions really, but my hubby does know that chocolate must be involved in some way. Well, except for that year that I went the whole 365 days without chocolate…Life’s too short to try that experiment again.

  • I just got the first of her books from the library, and I can’t wait to start it. Would love to have a copy of one of her books for my very own!

  • Thanks for hosting a great giveaway! My new tradition lately has been to NOT celebrate Valentine’s Day! :) I game my bf a small box of chocolates and he cleaned the shower for me. It’s not romantic, but it works for me! :)

  • My favorite Valentine memories actually happened as a young girl. Remember in elementary school when we would make our own valentines for our classmates? I loved making my “Valentine mailbox” to house my Valentines in.

I’ve read glowing reviews about this book. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Nicole

Hmmm… a great Valentine’s Day was last year, it included two huge steaks and a bottle of wine… I think we skipped all of the side dishes I made. This year it was a fun girls afternoon for our “sewing circle” (read = wine) and then dinner with my husband. [I just realized that a lot of the memories include good food and good wine...]

  • Margie

We usually buy some Valentine candy…then have a good dinner and watch a movie.

  • Marianna

We don’t really have any Valentines’ traditions other than celebrating Valentines Day and our anniversary (February 16th) together!

  • Wanda

Our Valentine’s Day tradition is to always go back to the same restaurant where we got engaged.

  • phxbne

only tradition at our house is hanging out with out of town friends who usually visit around that weekend

  • I really don’t have any special V day tradition but this year I treated myself to a massage and facial and can see that becoming a tradition!

    Thanks for entering me!

  • trish

Since having kids we have always included them on valentines day. We make heart shape pizza and have a nice dinner and games together.

  • Our Valentine tradition is to have homemade Valentine cookies and a Valentine cheesecake for supper. It’s always a hit.

this valentine’s day I was cleaning a box from the garage and came across a valentine in the bottom of the box from my son who at the time was 4 years old. It was in a carefully addressed envelope from his nursery school. He is now 30 years old. It was a special memory gift from my dear son. It sits on the mantle along side the card from my husband and will now go in his scrap book. I am so happy I cleaned that box and ironically on that very day.
