Penguin Books celebrates the 75th anniversary of its launch today, July 30!
This iconic orange waddler is so classy (and classic!), that I’ve been asked to share a party favor with one of the readers of She Is Too Fond of Books. How fun is that, a host that sends the guests home with lovely parting gifts.
I chose the book from this list of 75 Penguin titles; I believe this represents the 75 books that Penguin is donating to local libraries or literacy centers on each stop of the Penguin Mobile tour.
Disgrace, by J. M. Coetzee:
Written with the austere clarity that has made J. M. Coetzee the winner of two Booker Prizes, Disgrace explores the downfall of one man and dramatizes, with unforgettable, at times almost unbearable, vividness the plight of a country caught in the chaotic aftermath of centuries of racial oppression.
To enter the giveaway for a copy of Disgrace, just leave a comment below, sharing the title of another Penguin book you’ve read. If you keep your books shelved, this should be easy … just go look for that orange spine or the penguin logo! Comments will be open for entries until midnight on Thursday, August 5; I’ll announce the winner on August 6. US/Canada mailing addresses only, no P.O. Boxes.
Happy anniversary, Penguin Books!

This one Penguin 75 I haven’t read. But I *have* read lots of then, including COD, one of my favorite books.
What a great celebration!
Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks was fabulous, and a Penguin Book (I think?!)
Robin Cook…Acceptable Risk . I have, of course, read many others.

I love Penguin. Gosh, I’ve read a lot of Penguin books, but just to mention one, I’ll go with Special Topics in Calamity Physics.
I’ve several of their titles including The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan.
I’ve read manu on this list, but have not read Disgraced. My favorite would have to be Galileo’s Daughter – loved that book.
Thanks for the giveaway.
Have read so many Penguins, but will name the Mary McGarry Morris books, Songs In Ordinary Times and Fiona Range. Enjoyed both immensely!!

Great question! I didn’t realize how many authors are Penguin authors! I have read many great Penguin books such as Angle of Repose, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, White Noise, Crime & Punishment, The Secret Life of Bees, Small World, Nice Work, The Time of the Angels, Songs in Ordinary Time and The Memory Keeper’s Daughter are just a few of them! I really don’t know that I could pick an ultimate favorite!
Thank you for this great giveaway, J.M. Coetzee is a great author!

I use The Secret Life of Bees as a literature circle set in my classroom.
I’d love to read this book. I enjoyed Diary of a Bad Year very much. I am currently reading The Brothers Karamazov, which is a nice fat Penguin. Thank you for the chance to win this.
I have loved so many but my favourite has to be Lady Chatterley’s Lover. An all time classic and I keep it with my “special books”.
Many enjoyable hours spent reading but I have read and enjoyed The Memory Keeper’s Daughter and Year of Wonders. Thanks.
I still have a tattered copy of a Penguin Romeo and Juliet.
